Global Leader NES Establishes New Office in Sweden

Networked Energy Services delivers Smart Grid services in Sweden.

Stockholm, Sweden. June 29, 2016: Networked Energy Services (NES) is one of the world's innovators in the smart grid. The company is the market leader in the Nordic countries, with more than 2 ½ million smart meters installed for utility customers in the region, which includes among others, Vattenfall, E.ON and Landskrona Energi in Sweden. Now the company announced that it has opened a new office in Stockholm to serve not only Sweden but all of Scandinavia.

“It's fantastic that we are established in Sweden. We have a long history in the Nordic countries since the first-generation of smart meters rolled out in Sweden over ten years ago. With our factory in Poland, we can ensure short delivery times to our customers here”, says Petter Pettersen, who leads NES’s Sweden Operations from the Stockholm office.

The company is in a growth phase with recruitment in the Nordics also on the agenda. Smart grids are in high demand and continued development is necessary for energy worldwide, and NES is poised to expand on its more than 10 years of delivering and operating smart metering and smart grid systems for utilities in the region.

The transformation of traditional power grids to smart grids is needed both for durability and security. A variety of benefits are provided including, for example, a greater control of energy usage allowing the consumer to control the devices that consume unnecessary energy and thus achieve a lower consumption. However, the security aspect is also extremely important. The world is seeing a growing number of cyber attacks on society's supporting infrastructure. “Through our products, energy suppliers are able to check their systems and prevent these types of attacks and thus ensure security of operations”, says Pettersen.

The company's history began when one of the men behind Apple, Silicon Valley legend Mike Markkula, founded Echelon. Their idea in the 1980s was to create intelligent networks using a universal solution that could be integrated into any electrical appliance. In the early 2000s, the idea ascended into using the same technology for what was the first smart grid deployment, and there began the story of the NES.

Michael Anderson, CEO of NES, said “Sweden and the Nordic region is an important and progressive market in smart grids. One can see parallels to the IT boom, where Sweden was a country in the forefront. In the future, we think of an ecosystem in the energy industry, where we create an "App store" that provides different apps, such as for electric vehicles and renewables, to support this exciting development and transformation.”
