Networked Energy Services Introduces New Wireless Communications Options for the Patagonia Energy Applications Platform

The new Fourth Generation Smart Meter now provides flexibility of wireless with industry leading communication architecture

San Jose, CA, October 4th, 2017: Networked Energy Services Corporation (NES), a global smart grid solution provider with the industry’s leading Energy Applications Platform (EAP^TM), announced today the introduction of its Generation 4 poly phase smart meter with a cellular option card.  This new option further expands the wireless options available within the Patagonia Energy Applications platform and increases the connectivity footprint options for smart grid deployments. 

The Generation 4 Gateway Module is a modem-equipped device that can be used to directly connect devices to the utility's data center. It is fully interoperable with NES software applications and follows the OSGP standard. This direct connect solution provides all the same functionality as a power line communication device for demand response, billing, consumer engagement and multi-commodity data collection. In addition, the Generation 4 Gateway Module architecture is also designed to support other RF communication technologies.

The new Smart Meter’s capabilities include future proofing features such as over the air upgrades for modem and meter firmware, as well as, a field swappable communication module design allowing module replacements without electrical service disruption. The solution also has unique system capabilities, such as SMS shoulder tap, quick system registration, and last gasp outage alarms that produce operational savings created by reduced installation costs and efficient data rate usage.
